The historic downtown Albuquerque Railyards will headquarter our operations. The ABQ HQ is currently being constructed in the Boiler Room location of the Rail Yards - fences have been erected outside and scaffolding is in place inside. Once completed, the facility will offer industry-standard, hands-on, and craft-specific workforce training and job competencies for the film, television, and digital media industry, including emerging areas of focus. Central New Mexico Community College will co-locate at the Rail Yards with the NMMAC and share resources. Along with a 20,000-square-foot professional soundstage, there will be a virtual production stage and administrative offices. We are targeting a 2026 completion.
Our facility is dedicated in memory of Eric Witt who had an immense impact on the film industry foundation in New Mexico—often called “Mr. Film” because of his efforts to build the movie industry in New Mexico — a job that required a unique and velvet touch.
“Eric was an incredibly approachable leader and dedicated public servant who gladly shared his broad range of experience with all of us to deliver the best results for New Mexicans.” - Governor Grisham.
For over 30 years, Eric balanced the demands of a career in the film industry and public service. He started his career working for Dino De Laurentiis Communications in Los Angeles. Eric’s political work in New Mexico began in 1998 when he was the Chief of Staff for the state’s House of Representatives and continued as part of leadership in Governor Richardson’s office. His passion for service and creativity merged when he was named Executive Director of the Santa Fe Film Office in 2016. Eric was awarded an Emmy from the National Academy of Television Arts for his work on “However Wide the Sky: Places of Power” in 2022. Witt then became an adviser to Governor Grisham. Without Eric’s leadership, New Mexico’s booming film and media industry would not be the success it is today.
We're currently in development on a Las Cruces satellite location, strategically near educational partners, planning a 20,000-square-foot soundstage with construction set to align with Albuquerque’s timeline for 2026 opening.
